Well I have quite a few students who have been extremely interested in the Bodies exhibit in town. I am curious to hear your reflections on the exhibit. If you have had the chance to go, or do not wish to go and would like to explain why, feel free to make a comment! Please be careful regarding your comments as this is a sensitive issue.

ReplyDeleteIt sounds creepy. A big building with a bunch of bodies up for show. To me its like a grave yard with dead people above ground and nothing to cover them. Just a thought.

ReplyDeleteapparently after they were not claimed the government gave them away. they did not even have the decency to call them humans on the website "specimens" makes them sound like animals or a bacteria!!!!

I find Danielle's comment very interesting. Especially the research that she found on the exhibition's website. I also wonder why they use the word specimen? Perhaps to remove the humanity from the exhibit. I wonder if that is to make it easier to digest as a viewer. You know not seeing this exhibit as people but as art,or better science.

hi me again maybe i was a little harsh :( i think i would go actually if we knew that these were people who still passed on by natural causes but had donated their body for the world to see and had not been forced to...yes i have a weird mined that has a hard time making itself up i am very indecisive over this topic! and apparently the brain is the hardest organ to preserve... my research again.

Hahaa, BUT wouldn't you want to know whats going on with your body ? For a matter of fact. I love CSI, and Criminal Minds, and Bones, NCIS ... Im sure you get the point. So if we get the chance ... I'd like to go. Haha and also, I really wish we had a debate team. Madi .. I think you should go, if you dont like it then maybe you should just leave ? (Doesn't mean to sound rude). But I think it would be a good idea .. Wouldn't you ?

I think it's cool to see how you play during sports. The way Mr.Sevenson does it, Video tapes us (with help from Mr. Hayward) and tells us what we did wrong, and how we screwed up.

When I die, I don't want people staring at me saying "How interesting" or "HEY, Look at this speciment". If that happends to me, Danielle or Madi, if I die before you, YOU BEAT THAT PERSON WITH A BAT. If you don't, I will. BWAHA Or we could put them in the sun and make them act like plants, and they'll get sunburn (see grade 8 plant/animal cell blog).

AND, The whole real body thing freaky debate thing: Think if it was all fake little dummies, it wouldn't be the same as real (dead) people. but real (dead) people are gross (when dead).

Pretty cool discussion...this leads me to my next question...are any of you possibly going to donate your organs should you get in an accident and will not live?? How about just donating your body to science?

Umm, I kinda want a funeral, a normal funeral. With my WHOLE body in the coffin. Unless I get (sad to think about) cancer. Then I might CONCIDER it so they can find a cure. Or if not cancer some other kind of disease. Science is pretty far, whatelse do you think they can find? What if you get an Idiotic scientist that discovers something already discovered (Just an Example) Would you rather be in a nice fluffy coffin, or riped to shreads for no reason. My point is that you can't really choose what their going to do with your body. Once you give your body up, it's all their choice. HA!
